Irregular periods are common in all women and in medical term, it is known as oligomenorrhea. Irregular periods have a long interval of about 35 days. Normally, the research has seen that most of the woman has 21 to 28 days of cycle. Menstrual cycle has a period of seven days and woman experiences 11 to 13 periods in a year. But if we talk about those women who have oligomenorrhea may have only six or seven menstrual periods in a year.

The time period between each of your menstrual periods, number of days of your last menstrual periods, and abnormal bleeding identify the changes due to irregular periods. There are hundreds of causes that effect your cycle such as eating habits, weight loss or gain as well, anemia, menopause, thyroid disorders, hormonal imbalance, chronic liver disease, tuberculosis, bowel syndrome, miscarriage or childbirth, diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome, abnormal condition of uterus and other health problems.
How to Regulate Menstrual Cycle
It depends on your lifestyle that how you settle it down according to your needs and then how it effects on your life so it is the main reason that you going through such kinds of problems like excessive drinking, smoking, medications and birth control pills can also cause this problem. The European researched in 2005 that the patients suffered with asthma and hay fever may also go through the irregular periods.

Your cycle begin to be irregular during the first few years when your menstrual periods starts and also happens at the end of your menstrual years, when you reach to the menopause. It is noticeable that every woman is different and each woman has a different level of menstrual arrangements. If she is having slight irregularities of menstrual periods then it is not a cause of concern. Irregular cycle can be manageable while using some essential home remedies. Here these are:

1.  Ginger

Ginger is very effective for regulating the menstrual cycle and it also helps in relieving the menstrual cramps. Using ginger is good when you are concerning with delayed or slight bleeding.
  • Take one-half tsp of ground ginger and add in a cup of water then boil it for at least five minutes.
  • Add a little amount of sugar.
  • Drink this solution for three times a day immediately after taking meals.
  • Follow this remedy for about one month.

2.  Cinnamon

Cinnamon is an excellent ingredient to fight against irregular menstrual cycle and it also reduces pain. It gives a warming effect on your body and thus helps in the regulation of your periods. Cinnamon contains a chemical known as hydroxychalcone which is a trigger for insulin levels and it takes your menstrual cycle to its track.
  • Add one-half tsp of cinnamon powder to a glass of milk.
  • Drink this solution daily for about certain weeks.
  • You can also take cinnamon in other ways like sprinkling on your meals or salads, cinnamon tea, chew cinnamon sticks daily.

3.  Sesame Seeds and Jaggery (Gur)

Sesame seeds help in the hormonal imbalance and regulate your cycle in an amazing way. Sesame seeds contain lignans which work to bind the severity of hormones and also they contain essential fatty acids which help in producing the ideal and best hormonal production. Jaggery is warm in nature so it gives your body a warming effect and thus starts your cycle soon.
  • Take a handful of sesame seeds.
  • Roast them slightly and then grind them along with one tsp of jaggery in powdered form.
  • Take one tsp of this powder regularly on an empty stomach especially in the leutal phase or second half of your menstrual cycle (two weeks before your period starts).
  • Do this remedy for a few months.
  • You can also eat a small piece of jiggery.

Note: Avoid this remedy during your periods.


4.  Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is an excellent herb for all the problems occur in your body and so for irregular menstrual cycle and help regulating your hormones.
  • Take an aloe vera leaf and extract its gel.
  • Mix it with one tsp of honey.
  • Consume it daily before taking breakfast.
  • Follow this remedy for at least three months.

Note: Do not use this remedy during your menstrual periods.

5.  Unripe Papaya

Unripe papaya is of green color and it works excellently for regulating your periods. It actually helps in tightening the muscle fibers of the uterus. It is effective especially when you come to the age of menopause and when you take huge stress. Try to consume unripe papaya juice daily for few months and this remedy would not be used during the periods.

6.  Turmeric

Turmeric is considered to be a warming herb and thus it helps in regulating the menstrual cycle while giving out your body a warming effect. It is also concerned with the balancing of hormones. Turmeric helps in motivating the flow of your cycle, not only this but its anti-inflammatory property calms the menstrual pain.
  • Take a glass of milk and add one-quarter tsp of turmeric powder, honey or jiggery in it.
  • Drink this milk daily for several weeks until you see the improvement.
  • Turmeric supplements are also available in the market so you can take those enhancements by consulting to your doctor for the proper time of dosage.

7.  Coriander Seeds

Coriander also contains antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties, coriander helps in stimulating the menstrual cycle to its track.
  • Take two cups of water and add one tsp of coriander seeds in it.
  • Let them soak inside the water until the quantity of water becomes to the one cup.
  • Strain the solution so the liquid will become separate.
  • Discard the coriander seeds.
  • Drink this solution three times daily for several days before your periods.
  • Follow this remedy for few months.
  • You can also make coriander juice and drink daily for few months.

8.  Fennel

Fennel is also a good herb for treating with the irregular menstrual periods. Fennel is also good to take while feeling menstrual cramps during the periods related with premenstrual syndrome because it contains antispasmodic properties that helps in rebalancing the female sex hormones.
  • Take two tbsp. of fennel seeds and soak them in a glass of water overnight.
  • Strain the solution in the morning then drink it.
  • Do this remedy for at least a month or until you see some improvement in your periods to become regular.

9.  Mint

When mint is combined with the honey so it can serve as a good ayurvedic or herbal remedy for turning your periods to its regularity and it also make you feel comfortable from the menstrual cramps.
  • Mix one tsp of dried mint powder with one tsp of honey.
  • Consume the mixture daily for three times a day.
  • Do this remedy for several weeks.

10.  Carrot Juice

Carrot is enriched with iron so it is also good to use as remedy to treat the irregular menstrual periods easily. Eating raw carrots can be good as it help in improving up the hormone functions properly. Drink a glass of carrot juice regularly for about three months. You have an option to add other vegetable juices too.

Along with carrot juice, you can simply add corn, lettuce, beets, pumpkin seeds and drumsticks to your daily food. By the research it has been found that sugarcane juice drinking before your expected periods helps in the regulation of your cycle.

Stress is one of the biggest causes of irregular menstrual periods so try to relax and take proper diet. Do not get emotional anytime and have brain exercises as well. Usually, if you see some variations in your regular cycle so you must go to the doctor for the proper diagnose and then treatment, especially when you reach to the age above 40.
