  • In one cup of water, add two tsp of coriander seed powder.
  • Boil this mixture and strain the solution.
  • Drink this two times a day; you can add milk, sugar and cardamom. You can replace your regular tea with this.

2. Onions
Red onions are beneficial in this case to deal with the high cholesterol. The scientists from Hong Kong have been found that red onions help in reducing the bad cholesterol and start to elevate the good cholesterol levels. In this way, there will be low risk of developing heart disease.
  • Mix one tsp of each of onion juice and honey. Drink the mixture once daily.
  • Alternatively, add finely chopped onion and one-quarter tsp of pepper in a one cup of buttermilk. Consume it on a regular basis.
  • Try to add ginger, onion and garlic in your diet.

3. Indian Gooseberry
Indian gooseberry is also commonly called as amla which acts as a natural hypolipidemic agent. It helps in promoting the reduction of lipid concentrations in the serum. According to the study published in the International Journal of Medical Research and Health Sciences assumed that Indian gooseberry has antihyperlipidemic, anti-atherogenic, and hypolipidemic effects.
  • Mix one tsp of Indian gooseberry powder, or dried and powdered Indian gooseberries, in a glass of warm water.
  • Drink it daily in the morning on an empty stomach.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a great remedy to reduce the higher levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. It is found to be good for gout, high blood pressure, upper respiratory infections and others.
  • In a glass of water, mix one tsp of organic apple cider vinegar.
  • Drink this two times a day for a month at least.

You can eventually increase the amount of apple cider vinegar to two tbsp. per glass. If you do not like its taste, you can mix fresh orange juice, apple juice, grape juice or other fruits.

5. Orange Juice
If you take three cups of fresh orange juice daily, it will be great for the blood cholesterol levels to reduce naturally because it is rich in vitamin C, folate, and flavonoids.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that 750 mL of pure orange juice daily will help in increasing the HDL cholesterol and triglycerides whereas, it will decrease the LDL/HDL ratio in hypercholesterolemic patients.

If orange juice is fortified with sterols is much better. According to some studies, it has been shown that about 3 gms of phytosterols per day will readily help your total cholesterol levels to become low up to 11% and LDL by up to 15%. So, drink at least two glasses of plant sterol-fortified orange juice per day.

6. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is the best remedy for lowering the high cholesterol levels; even it is a saturated fat. Coconut oil contains lauric acid which helps in increasing the HDL (the good cholesterol) and improves the LDL/HDL ratio.

Try to add moderate amounts of organic coconut oil to your diet. You can have one or two tbsp. of this oil daily. Make sure you are not having processed coconut oil.

7. Oatmeal
Make your habit to have a bowl of oatmeal every day is an easy and effective remedy to reduce the cholesterol levels. Oatmeal is full of soluble fiber and reduces the absorption of cholesterol.

One-half cups of cooked oatmeal contains three grams of soluble fiber, beta-glucan. You can also add fruits and nuts such as walnuts, bananas, apples, strawberries, and walnuts to your oatmeal to stay healthy.

8. Fish Oil
Fish oils and fatty fish such as mackerel, trout, tuna, herring, salmon, bluefish, sardines and the like are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. They help in lowering the triglycerides and prevent heart disease. Consume one to four grams of fish oil per day. If you have adopted vegetarian diet, you should include flaxseeds that are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids in your diet.

A compound is present in red yeast rice known as monacolins which inhibit cholesterol synthesis to help lowering the cholesterol levels. It is the rice that is fermented by the red yeast (monascus purpureus) it has been used in China for a lot of medical purposes for thousands of years. You can also get red yeast rice tablets from pharmacies or food stores.

For high cholesterol, you should take 1200 to 2400 mg of the supplement twice daily. Consult the doctor for the proper dosage.

Some red yeast rice products have lovastatin and other chemicals may contain side effects. It is better to consult with the doctor before you start to take them. Remember that you should not take these supplements during the time period of pregnancy, breastfeeding or when you are suffering from liver problems.

10. Nuts
Almond, pistachios, walnuts, peanuts, hazelnuts, pecans, and other nuts and seeds are very much useful in controlling the high cholesterol levels as they are rich in plant sterols and fiber.  So, you can easily enjoy handful of these nuts.
